@ Meenah....nope...its ok....we can always talk personal thru our emails, hehehehehee...its all good!!! and YES...ALL PEOPLE deserve respect!! **mwaaaaaaaaaaah** ♥♥
Thanks CJ! That's how I see it too...through it all, they are all still strong, loving, giving and beautiful people. If only things could change for the better instead of pushing them back. All people deserve respect, honesty and be treated with dignity, no matter how different they are. Sometimes it just makes me ill. I know this probably isn't the best place to voice this type of opinion so I apologize.
I LUV U MEENAH!!! ♥♥♥♥ thanks for sharing your story!!!! it was Chaske too that helped inspire me to go deeper into the Native world...i have ALWAYS loved the culture since i was a kid and still do to this very day...even with all that has happened to them(which i am SICK over ;( ) they have managed to still be STRONG...FIERCE.....BEAUTIFUL WARRIORS!!! :)
Hmm, I joined this group last year and totally forgot!!! I need help, LOL!
(This is long, sorry.)
Actually, I did do some self improvement, although it's not physical, it's more knowledge based. Until six months ago, I didn't watch any TV to speak of, listen to, watch or read any news other than our local weekly rag. I had had enough after 9/11, when we went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan--I was angry and got depressed at what I heard and had seen about that and everything else in the world. So I crawled into my own little bubble and was happy. Then my family would come home and ask if I heard about the earthquakes in Haiti, or Japan or some other horrific event in the world or a nearby town and I'd say "No....haven't watched TV, and I didn't check news on the computer." They made their comments like I did not care.
So I thought, "Okay, I'll start at least reading CNN.com and it's my home page now. Each day, I read about war and the casualties and tools of war, the economy, politics, celebrities, about the atrocities that occur in our world and our country, and all the sick people who do terrible things to children, women, and so on. I read some of everything, no matter how petty or depressing it may be. I read it and listened and watched. Yeah I'm more informed, but I don't like it.
Then I made another decision and that was to educate myself more on some subject, cause or what have you. This is where Chaske inspired me. I chose to learn more about the issues facing the Indigenous People of our country and the past leading up to it all. In 2009 I did research for a story I was writing for National Novel Writing Month, and it opened my eyes, making me realize exactly how far individuals and a government can go to get what they want, then and now. I'm still learning, no matter how painful it is to read, watch or listen to. So, I've made a little progress. What do ya'll think?
Now if I can just lose these extra pounds and go backward in age a few years :) I can do the weight, of course. I just can't do the age. And I also know I have to learn to help myself and not depend on others to do it for me.
wow...how did i miss this group?? lol....I totally need to be here....i do have those moments every now and then that u mentioned above Crys!!! Im still workin on myself...im my own project, lol... :)
